Gijon, Asturias (2002)
A about 350kms from La Coruña is the city of Gijon, belonging to the Principality of
Asturias. A city that reminded me of La Coruña because of its geographic form, it's beaches, it's prominade
and to have a military base on a mount to the left of the beaches, like San Pedro in Coruña.
A unos 350kms de La Coruña se encuentra la ciudad de Gijon, perteneciente
al Principado de Asturias. Una ciudad que me recordo mucho a La Coruña por su forma geográfica, sus playas, su paseo marítimo
y por tener una base militar abandonada en un monte a la izquierda de sus playas, al igual que san Pedro en La Coruña.

Up on the mount of Santa Catalina, we can see that this sculpture,
simbol of Gijón, has been constructed on a military base. The level which I'm on is where the coastal artillery batteries
were located. The lower level, to the left, is the one that gives access to the underground rooms. Everything was very
well sealed.
Ya arriba en el monte de Santa Catalina, vemos que esta escultura,
simbolo de Gijón, ha sido construido sobre una base militar. El nivel en donde me encuentro es donde se ubicaban las baterías
costeras. El nivel inferior, a la izquierda, es la que da acceso a las salas subterráneas. Todo muy bien sellado.

donde se divisan las entradas selladas justo debajo de las posiciones de los cañones.
And of course, a photo of me at the lower level with
the sculpture behind. I think the ruins of the military base pass unnoticed for the tourists since they all
come up here for the views and the sculpture.
Y como no, una foto de mí en el nivel inferior con la escultura al
fondo. Creo que las ruinas de la base militar es lo que pasa más desapercibido por los turistas ya que todos suben aqui por
las vistas y la escultura.
I've got to comment that if your planning to
go up here by car, beware of the municipal agents since they have there small gold mine on a esplanade at
the entrance of the park. It's true that there's a small prohibition sign on the right about entering with a
car but just 5 meters ahead there's a long gravile esplanade prepared for cars. The policemen wait down below until the
tourists arrive at the park to later go up there to fine everybody, tourist or not. Take care as they
can bugger up your holidays like are personally saw last easter.
He de comentar que si vais a subir aquí arriba en coche,
tener cuidado con los agentes municipales ya que tienen su pequeña mina de oro en una explanada a la entrada del parque. Es
cierto que hay un pequeño cartel a la derecha de la entrada indicando la prohibición de entrar con el coche pero a los 5 metros
hay una larga explanada de gravilla acondicionado para coches. Los municipales esperan abajo hasta que los turistas lleguen
arriba y aparquen para luego subir y multar a todos, seas turista o no. Mucho cuidado ya que te pueden amargar las vacaciones
como yo vi personalmente.
