Little to show of these ruins in an advanced state of decline. This castle,
San Cristobal; figures described briefly within the informative pamphlet of the ría of Ferrol as "ruins of a fort". This is
the path that leads you to it.
Poco que mostrar de estas ruinas en un avanzado estado de desmoronamiento.
Este castillo, San Cristobal; figura descrito en pocas palabras dentro del folleto informativo de la ria de Ferrol como "ruinas
de una fortaleza abaluartada". Esto que veis es el camino que lleva hasta el.
A view from within the castle looking towards the left (East). As it's
possible to appreciate, very little is still standing. Right to my back is a lighthouse of approx 4 meters of height raised
on the corner of the perimetral wall. This place may have survived well some battle of the XIX century but it has not
been able to overcome the abandonment nor the vegetation. In any case, it deserves to be visited to see the
magnificent surroundings.
Aqui vemos una vista desde dentro del castillo mirando hacia la izquierda
(sentido Ferrol). Como se puede apreciar, muy poco queda ya de esta fortaleza. Justo a mi espalda tenia un faro blanco de
aprox. 4 metros de altura levantado sobre la esquina de la muralla perimetral.
Este lugar quizas saliera bien parado de
alguna batalla del siglo XIX pero no ha podido vencer al abandono ni a la vegetacion. De todas formas, merece ser visitado
por el magnifico entorno.
Revisited Summer 2002 / Revisitado
Verano 2002
Nearly a year after visiting this castle, I decided to return to take a
couple of more pics, as I consider that the few that are here don't cover most aspects of the ruins.
This first photo is of the main entrance, still standing.
Casi un año después de visitar este castillo, decidí regresar para sacar
unas cuantas fotos más, ya que considero que las pocas que hay aquí no cubren muchos aspectos de las ruinas.
Esta primera foto es de la entrada principal, aún en pie.
A view of what remains of the inside rooms. Everything is still covered
in deep vegetation.
Una vista sobre lo que queda de los habitáculos interiores. Todo sigue bajo
una densa vegetación.
One of the crenelations that surround the main walls. This is the only
one that wasn't covered in vegetaion. The brown area in the distance is the location of the outer port.
Una de las troneras que rodean la muralla perimetral. Este es el único que
no se encuentra bajo vegetación. La zona arenosa del fondo es la ubicación del puerto exterior.
And to finish, a view over the ruins. Still nothing has been done to conserve
this place.
Y para terminar, una vista sobre las ruinas. Aún no se ha hecho nada hacia
la conservación de este lugar.
