One of the first places to be visited in the province of Pontevedra
was Monteferro, just passed Panxón, in front of Baiona. Once you reach the top of the mountain you can visit the ugly monument
dedicated to the victims at sea.
But after having a light lunch, I decided to walk down the very steep sloap to finally reach
a gravel path.
Uno de los primeros lugares a visitar en la provincia de Pontevedra fue
Monteferro, justo después de Panxón y en frente a Baiona. Una vez que alcances la cima de la montaña puedes visitar el horrible
monumento dedicado a las victimas del mar.
Pero después de una comida ligera, decidí bajar por la empinadísima ladera, la cual me llevo hasta una pista de gravilla.
From this point I realised that the rumours of a coastal battery
located here were true. To my left an abandoned sentry box. I could also see some building in the distance.
Desde este punto me dí cuenta de que los rumores sobre una batería
costera ubicada aquí eran ciertas. A mi izquierda una garita abandonada. Al fondo algun tipo de estructura.
On my left a building with signs of decades of decay. It still conserved
some of the original camouflage paint on it's walls.
A la izquierda un edificio con señales de llevar muchísimo tiempo abandonado.
Todavía conservaba algo de pintura de camuflage original en las paredes.
It was strange to see that an office type building would look
straight out to sea but, then again, there isn´t much cover for anything down here.
Era extraño ver un edificio de tipo oficina mirando directamente
hacia el mar pero, viendolo bien, no hay demasiada cobertura para nada aquí abajo.
An entrance to some kind of fragile watchout position surrounded
by trees. This is the first location I visit to be located in the middle of such vegetation.
Una entrada a un delicado puesto de vigilancia. Esta es el primer
lugar que visito que encuentro rodeado de tantos árboles y vegetación.

BRICKS!!!

After visiting the buildings I was planning to leave until I met
a chap with his dog. I talked to him about what I was up to and he asked me: Have you seen the cannon?
Yes, after walking about 150 meters straight ahead I reached an old rusty cannon in the middle of
the trees. The model is an Munaiz-Argüelles and this precise one came from one of the batterys located at Ferrol.
Tras visitar los edificios estaba a punto de abandonar el lugar hasta que
me cruce con un señor que estaba paseando el perro. Le comente a lo que andaba a lo que me pregunto: ¿Has visto el cañón?
Efectivamente, a unos 150 metros más adelante me encontre con un cañón oxidado
en medio de los árboles. Este modelo es un Munaiz-Argüelles y, en su día, estaba localizado en una de las baterías del sur
de la ría de Ferrol.
By the size of the trees you can get an idea of the time this place
has spent abandoned. The chap said that there was another cannon there but he didn't know if it was under vegetation or ended
up down at the bottom of the cliffs.
Por el tamaño de los árboles nos podemos hacer una idea del tiempo que debe
de llevar abandonado este lugar. Me comento el señor que recordaba otra pieza pero no sabía si se encontraba debajo de la
vegetación o bien termino abajo en el fondo de los acantilados.

So I've found out, the battery was built in the year 1900. I have no idea in what year it was abandoned.

He averiguado que esta batería fue abierto en el año 1900. No tengo ni idea de en qué año cerro.
